El cultivo lo realizó la empresa nacional Industrial Hemp Solutions (IHS) con el apoyo de la Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires (UBA), equipos de la Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca, el Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (Senasa) y el Instituto Nacional de Semillas (INASE).
Tras 50 años del último cultivo legal de cáñamo industrial en Argentina, el país volvió a cosechar la planta con el objetivo de continuar con el desarrollo industrial de la planta y a la espera de la reglamentación de la ley de Cannabis Medicinal y Cáñamo Industrial. Los ensayos fueron en Ferré, Chacabuco y Balcarce.
“Para nosotros es una alegría inmensa presenciar y participar de la primera cosecha de cáñamo industrial después de 50 años en Argentina”, indicó el director de ARICCAME y también director Nacional de Articulación Federal del INASE, Gabriel Giménez.
El funcionario destacó que se trata de una iniciativa privada, articulada con el sector público, y que desde el INASE y Senasa lograron ingresar germoplasma internacional de cáñamo de países con tradición cañamamera “como el caso de Francia, Italia y otros país de Europa”.
“Es muy importante está articulación con Hemp Solutions y sobre todo pensar en el desarrollo de la estabilidad de un cultivo como el cáñamo que va a hacer historia en Argentina”, afirmó Giménez e indicó que es preciso trabajar sobre la cadena productiva, la estabilidad y las característica de las genéticas de cáñamo. “Estamos en ese camino para que haya cientos de proyectos como este”, concluyó.
Sobre la iniciativa, Maximiliano Baranoff, director de Innovación de IHS, señaló que el objetivo de la empresa es “cañamizar las industrias para facilitar la transición hacia las nuevas economías”.
“La empresa promueve el desarrollo de economías regionales, potencia el secuestro de carbono y contribuye a la regeneración de los suelos, además de generar divisas para el país, por el incremento de las exportaciones como por la sustitución de importaciones”, detalló Baranoff.
A su turno, el secretario de Agricultura, Juan José Bahillo, aseguró que tienen el objetivo de garantizar el crecimiento de los cultivos de cáñamo “para todos sus usos legales” con el aporte e innovación de los organismos descentralizados y las universidades.
En ese sentido, Diana Guillen, presidenta del Senasa, indicó que desde el organismo acompañan el ensayo y el estudio del cultivo. “Estamos viendo cómo responden cada una de las variedades y en simultáneo trabajando en nuevas normativas que permitan acompañar el desarrollo del sector”, afirmó.
Sobre la cosecha experimental, la presidenta del INASE Silvana Babbitt, señaló que identificaron al cáñamo como un cultivo estratégico. “Lo trabajamos como lo hicimos con el cannabis medicinal y como lo hacemos con muchas especies vegetales, entendiendo que contar con buenos materiales de propagación es fundamental para construir una industria robusta”, aseguró.
Por otro lado, la abogada y presidente de Proyecto Cáñamo, Diana Barreneche, se mostró contenta por la iniciativa y destacó el trabajo del INASE y Senasa por la importación de las semillas.
Barreneche solicitó la reglamentación de la ley de cannabis medicinal y cáñamo industrial. “Daría un marco jurídico a este tipo de ensayos y permitiría el desarrollo de testeos de cultivares en toda la Argentina”, afirmó.
La abogada aseguró que actualmente existen semillas de cannabis adaptadas al suelo gracias a los buenos cultivadores y breeders, pero indicó que el cáñamo no cuenta con eso. “Es necesaria la importación de material vegetal que permita estabilizar y adaptar las diferentes finalidades de las semillas de cáñamo en las distintas provincias para el desarrollo de la industria”, explicó.
Banco de germoplasma para el cultivo del cáñamo
En la actualidad Argentina no cuenta con un banco de semillas de cáñamo y para avanzar con el proyecto fue necesaria la importación de germoplasma aprobada por INASE. “Consideramos vital contar con variedades aptas para nuestros ecosistemas, a poco tiempo de la reglamentación de la Ley”, expresó Babbitt.
Proyecto de cultivo de cáñamo
En septiembre de 2022, IHS logró un acuerdo con la Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (FAUBA), bajo la coordinación del Ingeniero Agrónomo Daniel Sorlino del Grupo de Estudio y Trabajo en Cannabis (GET Cannabis) y titular de la Cátedra de Cultivos Industriales.
“Mediante un convenio entre la UBA y la empresa, nos sumamos a la investigación y brindamos todo el apoyo necesario para el desarrollo de todas las variedades que tenemos en el país y su relación con el clima, particularmente en la zona pampeana”, explicó el ingeniero agrónomo.
Sorlino afirmó que actualmente recorren las zonas para ver cuáles se van adaptando y en esta primera instancia se buscó “adaptar la maquinaria al proceso de cosecha, y así tener un paquete tecnológico adecuado”.
