Es CEO de la empresa chilena productora de cáñamo y desafía a la popularidad del CBC: “Toda planta viene a ofrecer sus frutos y en el cannabis son las semillas, donde el verdadero cambio está en el equilibrio de Omega 3 y 6, el CBD es un parche”.
Pero la historia de Álvaro Patricio Gómez Pérez, menor de 4 hermanos, nacido en Los Ángeles – Chile-, está atravesada por la resiliencia. Capacidad que lo llevó a intentar durante 8 años (2009-2017) concretar su propósito de cultivar cannabis y cáñamo con licencia nacional.
En el camino pasó por la Corte Suprema Chilena, conoció todas las oficinas públicas y hasta lo envolvió un escándalo mediático con el entonces Director Nacional del Servicio Agrícola, Eduardo Fuhrer.
“Recuerdo que fue en enero de 2011 cuando por fin después de tanto machacar recibo la autorización. En marzo un medio publica a todo trapo ´Otorgan licencia para cultivar Marihuana en Chile´. Al instante sacan en todos los canales al ministro de Salud preguntándole si sabía algo de esto. A las cuatro horas me avisan que me la habían revocado”, cuenta con ojos altones y a media sonrisa el Ingeniero Agrónomo de la Universidad de la Frontera de Temuco.
Nacido en 1974, su papá se dedicaba a la agricultura prestando servicios con su tractor y su madre era profesora rural, en ese seno absorbió el vínculo con la tierra hasta los 13 años que empezó a convivir con su abuelo en Los Ángeles, pero ciudad.
-¿Se te pasó por la cabeza dejar todo y dedicarte a otra cosa cuando te revocaron la licencia en 2011?
Asiente con la cabeza y nuevamente se le dibuja la sonrisa cómplice: “Jamás, ni pensé en abandonar. Fue como si me hubiesen puesto un ají allí. Volví a preparar todo, me enfoqué –señala con sus manos el horizonte- y caminé Tribunales para en tres años llegar a la Corte Suprema de Justicia».
El movimiento parece innato en Álvaro Gómez, de 48 años, quien recibe la dolorosa pérdida de su padre a causa de fallas renales, cuando terminaba sus estudios secundarios. Este hecho lo llevó a querer estudiar medicina para ayudar a la gente. Pero sus pergaminos tienen otra ruta.
“Me bocharon mal en el primer año, así fue que decidí volver al campo y allí me quedé por un año. Me di cuenta que lo mío no era estar encerrado, necesitaba volver a conectar con la naturaleza”, recuerda Álvaro padre de dos mujeres -15 y 19 años- y un varón de 13.
Con la revocación del fallo de la Corte Suprema, dos votos contra uno, el camino hacia la autorización parecía abrirse, pero el proyecto y el pensamiento de Álvaro había cambiado: “Con la nueva composición societaria queríamos algo sustentable, ecológico, que mejorara la producción agrícola y por sobre todo que ayude al problema nutricional que aborda la comunicada rural”.
Entonces el cáñamo se cruzó en horizonte Agrofuturo, dos años se tardó en llegar la Línea NF de semillas cañameras con derecho de obtentor directo de Estados Unidos: “En un primer momento iban a venir de Uruguay, pero luego se fueron para atrás. A veces pienso que podríamos haber estado más adelantado que ellos”, reflexiona.
El equilibrio es otro de los pilares que destaca el Ingeniero Agrónomo en su conducta. Pone su propia enfermedad, soriasis leve, para ejemplificar que la propia homeostasis está en la relación con la naturaleza: “Yo aprendí que todo lo que me recetaban, lo tenía de forma natural. Un poco de agua, de tomate, sol y ejercicio. Cuando no hago eso se me prende una pequeña alarma”.
Agrofuturo cosecha cáñamo desde 2017 con licencias por un año para investigación, recién este año han logrado conseguirla por tres años y con fines de venta. Algunos de los productos que comercializan en su página web son: Miel, Aceite Extra Virgen, Harina y Escencias.
Actualmente la empresa cosecha casi 2 hectáreas anuales de 17 mil plantas de cáñamo, que dan unos 3 mil kg de flor: “Ya nos quedó chico”, afirma Álvaro, quien en 2018 tuvo que sobreponerse de un asalto al predio donde se llevaron 300 plantas y descogollaron al paso otras tantas más: “perdimos casi un 30 o 40 por ciento de la plantación. Fue un golpe al patrimonio genético”.
-Hasta acá tu perfil agrícola que te vincula al cáñamo es claro, pero qué hay del activismo cannábico ¿Fumas marihuana?
“Sí, consumo a diario algunas pitadas a fin de la jornada como para relajar”, expresa entre risas y con voz suave continúa “también me ayuda para la famosa lluvia de ideas, siempre ando con una libreta en mano”, ríe.
Entusiasmado en la entrevista, reflexiona: “Debo reconocer que comencé de grande recién a los 27 años allá por el 2001, me empecé a dar cuenta que no había nada del famoso viaje, los colores y los mitos de esa distorsión del viaje y dije pucha pero sí esto ayuda a la gente y no es malo, porqué está prohibido”.
La generación de los 70´-80´, fue una de las más damnificadas del paradigma prohibicionista, el repudio a la contra cultura y el mundo bipolar hizo que Estados Unidos y la ONU alertaran a los Estados en endurecer sus leyes contras las sustancias ilegales y perseguir aún más a los usuarios.
El punto de partida en todo camino para Álvaro está en ley: “Tuve la suerte de tener de compañeros en la universidad a muchos abogados y el consejo siempre era el mismo: la clave de todo está en la ley y léela desde el punto de vista constitucional”.
“Así fue que me he leído todas las convenciones y leyes chilenas, y el cannabis ni el cáñamo no estuvieron prohibidos, solo había que cumplir la premisa número uno: ´pedir permiso´”, expresa Álvaro con la sencillez visual y comunicacional que transmite.
Para el cierre, el CEO de Agrofutro elige dejarnos un adelanto de lo que será su participación virtual en la Expo Cáñamo San Luis, sobre el futuro alimenticio. “La clave está en el Omega 3 y 6, el CBD es un parche”.
