Comunidades y organizaciones locales de Santa Fe cultivarán cuatro variedades de Cannabis sativa L en la provincia este año, en el marco de un proyecto de investigación y desarrollo sobre aplicaciones medicinales de la planta dirigido por la Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR), el Conicet y la Asociación de Usuarios y Profesionales para el Abordaje del Cannabis (Aupac).
Las entidades involucradas trabajarán en conjunto en la plantación, estudio y certificación de las variedades para su registro y mejoramiento. El proyecto marca un precedente provincial ya que conlleva la producción local de cannabis en Santa Fe, con lo que busca promover la investigación sobre sus diversos usos, medicinales o no.
En suma, la iniciativa tiene por objetivo producir una genética segura que garantice calidad y trazabilidad a cannabicultores y usuarios, informa Página/12. Además, el proyecto busca fomentar instancias de producción y divulgación científica como la publicación de artículos en congresos, así como compartir la información con la comunidad y los medios de comunicación.
“La importancia de la cuestión social nos parece absolutamente relevante”, señaló la investigadora Vanina Cravero, quien conduce el proyecto junto a su par Ileana Gatti. Cravero es docente de la cátedra de Mejoramiento Vegetal y Producción de Semillas de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias de la UNR, representada en la iniciativa por un conjunto de investigadoras.
A su vez, Soledad Pedrana, de la asociación cannábica Aupac, remarcó: “Que nos hayan convocado es muy importante. Nos permitirá acompañar con una trazabilidad más dedicada y un profesionalismo más avanzado a nuestros usuarios”, según recogió Página/12.
Cultivo de cannabis en Santa Fe: detalles del proyecto
Por su parte, Cravero dio detalles sobre el proyecto de cultivo de cuatro variedades de cannabis en Santa Fe, que surgió luego de que participara junto a Gatti del Congreso de Cannabis 2021 en La Rioja. “Los materiales van a ser evaluados genéticamente en cuanto a su estabilidad y qué tipo de cannabinoides producen”, reveló la directora de la iniciativa.
La primera etapa del proyecto contemplará el estudio de las cuatro variedades que Aupac seleccione como las de mayor potencialidad. Así, el plan a seguir es “registrar en el Instituto Nacional de Semillas (Inase) variedades de cannabis que cumplan con los requisitos para cualquier especie vegetal, y tener un derecho de propiedad sobre esas variedades”, continuó Cravero.
La iniciativa precisa dos cosechas de 40 plantas, ya que esa es la cantidad que exige el Inase para la evaluación. “Queremos saber cómo se comportan. Quizás podemos obtener plantas más parejas, libres de virus, con todas las ventajas que trae el cultivo in vitro”, subrayó la docente e investigadora.
“Después vamos a trabajar en la obtención de nuevos materiales a partir de cruzamientos”, mencionó Cravero. En tanto, agregó: “Arrancamos por acá para empezar a posicionarnos en la temática. Después vamos a abrir y diversificar en sus múltiples usos porque paralelamente, a partir de un convenio, vamos a tener el apoyo del Inase”.
Cabe destacar que el proyecto es impulsado por un grupo interdisciplinario de investigadores pertenecientes a la Facultad y al Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias Agrarias de Rosario. Las áreas de estudio incluyen Mejoramiento Vegetal, Fisiología, Química, Biología y Manejo de Suelos. Asimismo, toman parte estudiantes y becarios de la licenciatura en Recursos Naturales y la carrera de Ingeniería Agronómica.
La importancia del cultivo local de cannabis
“Somos una asociación sin fines de lucro que se pone al hombro la situación del cannabis en la ciudad. Por eso, que la gente de Agrarias nos haya convocado para avanzar en el cultivo es muy importante”, valoró Pedrana, de la Aupac, que trabaja en clínica y capacitaciones profesionales.
“La pata más flaca la poníamos en el cultivo, porque era lo poco claro, lo poco legal, lo que todavía no tiene lugar. Siempre lo postergábamos”, señaló la representante de la organización cannábica. Ante ello, celebró: “Las investigadoras se acercaron para generar realmente un conocimiento conjunto y nos abrieron las puertas para este proyecto, que consideramos que es una innovación”.
Es menester destacar que en Santa Fe ya existen dos proyectos para producir cannabis dirigidos por el Laboratorio Industrial Farmacéutico (LIF). “Están pensados para que solamente el Estado cultive”, ponderó Pedran.
