Así lo asegura un reciente estudio científico realizado por las universidades de Toronto, Terranova y Manitoba.
Según un nuevo estudio, la legalización del cannabis en Canadá ha estado “asociada con una disminución en las ventas de cerveza”. La investigación, publicada en la revista Drug and Alcohol Dependence, sugiere que esto ha sucedido porque los consumidores prefieren un producto por sobre el otro.
“Las ventas de cerveza en todo Canadá cayeron 96 hectolitros por 100 mil habitantes inmediatamente después de la legalización del cannabis no medicinal y 4 hectolitros por 100 mil habitantes cada mes a partir de entonces, para una reducción mensual promedio de 136 hectolitros por 100 mil habitantes después de la legalización”, sostuvieron los autores del estudio, un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad de Manitoba, la Universidad Memorial de Terranova y la Universidad de Toronto.
El estudio aporta datos oficiales de Canadá en donde se grafica que los ingresos fiscales por las ventas de cannabis superan a los que se generan por la cerveza y el vino juntos.
Mientras que el comercio de los productos derivados de la planta generó una recaudación para el estado por unos 660 millones de dólares canadienses (447.8 millones de euros), contra los 205 y 450 millones de dólares canadienses que generaron el vino y la cerveza, respectivamente, en el período 2022-23.
Además, desde que se legalizó el cannabis, en 2018, el comercio de cerveza ha ido disminuyendo año a año. “La reducción en las ventas de cerveza asociada con la legalización del cannabis con fines no medicinales sugiere que es probable que las personas no consuman cannabis y alcohol al mismo tiempo”, concluyó el estudio.
